Do they teach Photoshop wrong?

I can talk at length about the infernal hatred I feel for the Adobe Cartel, but I have to admit that when they aren’t keeping the creative industries in a chokehold, they occasionally manage to produce good software. For example, there really isn’t any alternative to Photoshop for what Photoshop does. (And if you try telling me to use Gimp, I’ll bite off your fingers) Photoshop is an incredible tool, but if you only go off of the curriculum in college, you might never get to see what the program is truly capable of. I was lucky enough to get a good instructor for my second Photoshop class, but all of the material leading up to that class was for older versions of the software, or mostly repeat content. Often all that was provided was a YouTube video posted by a random channel in 2018, that’s barely applicable to the current operation of the program. Meaning that if I wanted to actually complete an assignment I would have to find an equivalent tutorial for the version of the software I’m actually working in. At least a few times while I was doing this I thought to myself: “If I wanted to teach myself how to use photoshop with youtube videos, I wouldn’t have gone to college!” I am hopeful that my experience is uncommon.
